Dated 24 Sep 2006 Email Using Outlook Express

We have added to our tutorial pages a set of instructions for Outlook Express 6 users. Please look over the screens and follow the setup instructions. You will see a few changes from the old setting formally used. (i.e. My server requires authentication is now to be checked on the Servers Tab and on the Advanced Tab Outgoing mail (SMTP) is set to port 26.)

Dated 12 Sep 2006 Email Server

Well it's been almost 3 years since any major changes have occurred and now we are faced with moving the mail server to a larger facility with increased capacity and connectivity. This entails setting up all new accounts on the new server. We are desperately trying to save all old mail, address books and preference settings. You may still access the old server to print out any mail by following this link.  http://208.229.144.174/src/login_webmail.php

We also hope to have in place a far better SPAM protection system, at least more aggressive, to better control SPAM.

We should also have an optional "Challenge / Response" system available. This type of system, while some people don't like it and some do...STOPS MOST SPAM.

Dated 2 Nov 2003 Site Search Feature

The site search feature is not yet in operation.

Dated 2 Sep 2003 WebMail Server Update

Yesterday, 9/1/03, we had a hard drive failure. Within minutes the data center was aware of the issue. All current email residing on the server, "new mail in inbox", "sent mail", "any saved mail in folders", etc was lost.

They were, however, able to maintain items like "address books, "spam settings", "fetch settings", "usernames and passwords".

Upon this failure and as soon as they determined what had gone wrong, they replaced the drive and restored what information they could. Making the move to replace the drive kept new mail coming in without a long interuption.

Email users who download mail via outlook or similar programs will have only lost a small percentage of their mail, some none at all. Those of us who use webmail will have lost all mail stored on the server, but did continue to get new mail within a very short time frame.

Hard drive failures are not a common issue as to overall reliability of a server. However when they do occur it is felt widely by the users.

I personally lost serveral pieces of new mail and all stored mail. I am trying to notify any business relationships that may have sent mail over the Labor Day weekend to resend.

My personal apoligies go out to my customers, but I also praise the workers in the data center. Those workers on duty yesterday, Labor Day, had far from a relaxing holiday, yet by their swift actions were able to keep mail coming in with only a very small loss of new mail.

Regards, Gary
